Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Diodato Construction — from the first call to the final walkthrough.
How does the estimate process work?
Getting started is simple. Reach out to us by phone or through our online form, and we'll schedule a no-obligation consultation at your home. During the visit, we'll walk through the project scope with you, take measurements, ask the right questions, and get a thorough understanding of your goals. Within a few business days, you will receive a detailed written estimate outlining costs, materials, and a proposed timeline — no hidden fees, no surprises.
What happens after I approve the estimate?
Once you approve the estimate, we'll finalize the project contract, collect any required deposit, and add your project to our schedule. We'll walk you through the full timeline and confirm all material selections before work begins. You'll always know what's happening on your project and who to call if you have questions.
Will I have a dedicated point of contact throughout my project?
Yes. As a family-owned business, we believe in personal accountability. You'll have direct contact with our project lead throughout the entire job. We don't pass you off to a call center or a rotating crew of strangers — the same team that starts your project sees it through to completion.
Do you subcontract work, or is it all done in-house?
The vast majority of our work is performed by our own experienced crews. When specialized trade work is required (such as licensed electrical or plumbing), we partner with vetted, licensed subcontractors we have long-standing relationships with. We remain on-site and responsible for coordination and quality regardless of who is swinging the hammer.
Do I need a permit for my remodeling project?
It depends on the scope and location of your project. Structural changes, additions, new deck construction, and certain interior remodels typically require permits from your local municipality. Cosmetic updates like flooring replacement, interior painting, or cabinet swaps usually do not. During your estimate consultation, we'll advise you on exactly what permits are required for your specific project.
Who pulls the permits — me or Diodato Construction?
We handle permit applications on your behalf as part of our service. We're familiar with the requirements across Maryland jurisdictions and will manage the paperwork, fees, and scheduling of required inspections. You won't need to navigate the permit process on your own.
What happens if work fails an inspection?
In the rare event that an inspection reveals an issue, we address it promptly at no additional cost to you — as long as the concern is related to our work. We build to code standards on every project, and we stand behind our craftsmanship through every inspection stage.
How long will my project take?
Project timelines vary widely based on scope. A bathroom remodel might take 2–3 weeks, while a full kitchen renovation or basement finish can run 4–8 weeks. Deck construction typically takes 1–2 weeks depending on size and materials. We'll give you a realistic, project-specific timeline during your estimate — and we'll communicate proactively if anything changes.
How far out are you currently booking?
Our availability shifts with the season and project load. We generally book 3–6 weeks out during peak season (spring and summer) and may have sooner availability in fall and winter. The best way to get an accurate start date is to contact us — we will give you an honest answer based on our current schedule.
What could delay my project, and how do you handle it?
Common causes of delay include material lead times, weather (for exterior work), permit processing timelines, and unforeseen conditions discovered once work begins (such as hidden water damage). We proactively communicate any delay as soon as we're aware of it, explain the cause, and provide a revised completion date. We don't go silent when things get complicated.
What are your payment terms?
We structure payments in three stages: a deposit at contract signing, a mid-project draw at a defined milestone, and a final payment upon project completion and your satisfaction. The exact percentages are outlined in your written contract. We do not require payment in full upfront.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept check, bank transfer, and most major credit cards. Payment details are confirmed in writing at the time of contract signing so there are no surprises.
Can I make changes to the project after work has begun?
Yes — we understand that sometimes you'll see the work taking shape and want to adjust. Any changes to the original scope are handled through a written change order that documents the modification, cost impact, and timeline adjustment. We don't begin change-order work until you've approved it in writing. This protects both you and us.
How do I know if I need a full roof replacement or just a repair?
The honest answer depends on the age of your roof, the extent of the damage, and whether the underlying decking has been compromised. As a general rule, if your roof is over 20 years old and you're seeing widespread granule loss, sagging, or multiple leak points, replacement is typically the smarter long-term investment. If the damage is isolated — a few missing shingles, a failing flashing detail, a single leak source — a targeted repair is often all that's needed. During our estimate visit, we'll give you a straight assessment and explain exactly what we recommend and why.
What type of roofing materials do you install?
We primarily install architectural (dimensional) asphalt shingles, which are the most common and cost-effective choice for Maryland homes. They offer excellent durability, a wide range of colors, and strong manufacturer warranties. We work with several reputable shingle brands and will help you select the right product for your home's style and budget. For each installation we include proper underlayment, ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys, and correctly installed ridge cap and ventilation — the details that separate a quality roof from a shortcut job.
Does roofing work require a permit in Maryland?
Permit requirements vary by county and municipality in Maryland. Full roof replacements often require a permit, particularly if any structural decking work is involved. We are familiar with the requirements across the jurisdictions we serve and will pull any necessary permits on your behalf — same as we do for our other services. You won't need to navigate the permitting process yourself.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
Yes. We stand behind our craftsmanship with a workmanship warranty on all labor. The duration varies by project type and is stated in your contract. In addition, most materials we install carry manufacturer warranties, which we will document and pass along to you at project completion.
What if something goes wrong after the project is finished?
Call us. Seriously — we're a family business and our reputation is everything. If something we built or installed fails within the warranty period due to workmanship, we'll come back and make it right. We've been serving Maryland homeowners for over 25 years because we treat every home as if it were our own.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Diodato Construction, LLC carries full liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. We are licensed to operate in Maryland. We're happy to provide proof of insurance before any work begins — just ask.
